The Art of Youth Work Anthology

Edited by Adam Muirhead

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

Youth Work, for many people, is something that is difficult to fully articulate.  This could be because its mechanism is versatile and multi-faceted.  It could also be because so many people plant professional love in the methodology, which is challenging to express in process diagrams and academic writing.  Art bypasses these challenges with astounding ease because it is unapologetically subjectively expressive.

In the Art of Youth Work Anthology, we shall embrace the indistinct and use creativity to channel meaning and importance.  Artistic interpretation may produce new forms of representation of Youth Work that could be used to communicate the beloved profession, practice and outcomes in a different and complementary light to more traditional description and impact measurement.

We are now seeking contributions from youth workers, young people and all sympathetic persons which may take the form of poetry, photography, painting, stories, prints, collage, drawing, comic strips and other visual mediums, or a combination.  We are interested in works which convey something which ‘speaks to’ Youth Work along the following themes:

  1. ‘What Youth Work means to me’
  2. The impact of Youth Work
  3. Professional endeavour/sacrifice
  4. Social justice and collective action

An edited selection of works will be produced and printed into a coffee table-style book that will be available to purchase – price tbc.  All those whose submitted work is used will receive a free copy of the book upon publication.

10% of all profits will go to the Institute for Youth Work.
